The Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society (OOSS) announced that Albert Castillo, MBA, who has been an integral member of the OOSS executive team for more than 15 years, has stepped down from his role as OOSS director of membership to focus on San Antonio Eye, where he serves as CEO.
“Throughout his tenure, Mr. Castillo has been instrumental in advancing OOSS initiatives, including the benchmarking program, salary survey, and the OOSS ASC Administrator Program at Caribbean Eye, among many other educational efforts,” noted Diane Blanck, executive director, OOSS. “Albert has built strong, lasting relationships with OOSS members and industry partners. While we will miss him in this leadership role, we are grateful for his many contributions and his continued involvement as an OOSS member.”
Ms. Blanck continued, “Change presents an opportunity for reflection and for boldly envisioning the future. With that in mind, we are restructuring the OOSS executive team to further strengthen member services, expand educational offerings, and enhance analytics and intelligence.”
As part of the restructuring, Carrie Jacobs, COE, has been named OOSS director of member programs. In this role, Ms. Jacobs will lead the development of both internal and curated educational programs, collaborating with subject-matter experts and partners to deliver high-value education for physicians, administrators, and clinical staff at OOSS member facilities. She will also cultivate member and industry relationships and coordinate joint initiatives with other ophthalmic associations. Ms. Jacobs brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in ophthalmology. She currently serves as executive vice president of operations at Chu Vision Institute in Bloomington, Minnesota, and will continue in that role.
Todd Albertz, CASC, has been named OOSS director of analytics and intelligence, and will lead OOSS analytics initiatives, including benchmarking and salary survey planning, implementation, and member consultation. He will also continue to strengthen relationships with members and industry partners.
Mr. Albertz brings more than 20 years of experience in ophthalmology and health care, with deep expertise in administration, business development, and compliance. He currently serves as director of healthcare solutions at Eckert Wordell in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Finally, Mike Romansky, JD, OOSS Washington Counsel, will continue to lead OOSS advocacy efforts focused on fair reimbursement, appropriate federal regulation, and collaboration with ophthalmic and ASC professional associations.
“I am proud to continue serving as your executive director and welcome your questions, feedback, and ideas,” said Ms. Blanck. “Please join me in thanking Albert Castillo for his extraordinary service and in welcoming Carrie Jacobs and Todd Albertz to the OOSS executive team.”
