The AAO’s annual meeting will take place Sept. 30 to Oct. 3 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for all those registering for in-person attendance, and additional specific safety protocols may be announced closer to the meeting. All decisions will be based on best practices as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and mandates from both the State of Illinois and City of Chicago.

This year’s show will include:
- Subspecialty Day (Sept. 30-Oct. 1)Subspecialty Day will consist of eight meetings divided across different subspecialties, including glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology, refractive surgery, retina, uveitis, cornea and oculofacial plastic surgery. Scott Turlow will give the 2022 Michael F. Marmor Lecture in Ophthalmology and the Arts, titled “The Doctor’s Son: Medicine in My Novels.” Gerrit R.J. Melles, MD, PhD, will deliver the 79th Edward Jackson Memorial Lecture, titled “How Would Nature See Our Corneal Triumphs?” - Named Lectures

During AAO 2022 look for a variety of sessions on hot topics such as: artificial intelligence, gene therapy, surgical keratoplasty, pars plana vitrectomy, congenital glaucoma, gonioscopy, monoclonal antibody treatments and myopia. - Skills Transfer Labs
This year’s meeting will feature many returning, hands-on learning opportunities. New in 2022, “Learn to Utilize and Integrate a 3D Digital Visualization System in High Volume Surgery Centers,” will help attendees understand the benefits and implementation of a digital visualization setup in their clinic. Attendees can purchase Skills Transfer lab tickets when registering for AAO 2022. The AAO strongly recommends that attendees also attend the Skills Transfer didactic lecture, included within the AAO 2022 meeting registration.

CLOSING SESSION
In the Closing Session on Oct. 3 at 3:45-5 p.m., Doris Kearns Goodwin, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and presidential historian, examines the leadership triumphs, trials and tribulations of the men and women who have shaped this nation, culled from her lifetime examination of the US presidency. Ms. Goodwin will speak about her seventh book, Leadership in Turbulent Times.
In addition, incoming Academy president, Daniel J. Briceland, MD, will lay out his vision for 2023 and beyond.
