B+L SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS PROBES
Bausch + Lomb Surgical Instruments’ newly designed E2516 (CCW) and E2517 (CW) Erickson-Lee Pigtail Lacrimal Probes have a counter-clockwise or clockwise orientation. This allows surgeons to accommodate to right and left tear duct probing and irrigation. The cannulated probes’ ported ends allow the use of fluid to open the lacrimal duct, which aids insertion, the company says.

ABBOTT MEDICAL OPTICS IDESIGN
Abbott Medical Optics’ iDesign Advanced Wavescan Studio system received FDA approval for use in LASIK procedures. The wavefront diagnostic aberrometry uses high-definition scanning technology to detect imperfections in the eye that result in poor vision. The scan helps surgeons to customize a LASIK treatment tailored to the patient’s eye by capturing five optical measurements, the company says. The three-second scan produces a 3D image and blueprint of the eye.

NPR in brief
■ Bausch + Lomb introduced enhancements to its Trulign Toric IOL calculator’s graphic interface. The enhanced calculator allows surgeons to immediately calculate the steep axis from the data entered in the flat axis section. Also, surgeons can perform concurrent bilateral calculations and view the axis of placement located in the center of the eye and the residual astigmatism located in the eye diagram. The Trulign Toric IOL calculator allows surgeons to select the appropriate IOL power range for cataract patients by directly entering the patient’s flat (K1/axis) and steep (K2/axis) figures, including surgically induced astigmatism, incision location and IOL mean sphere power.
