AVT SCLERAL MULTIFOCAL LENS
■ A back-aspheric center-distance scleral multifocal lens, from Advanced Vision Technologies (AVT), is now on the market. Available in 16.1-, 16.6- and 17.1-mm diameter (as well as customized diameters), the back surface of the design has reverse curves to accommodate the limbal zone. The company says it’s an excellent alternative for patients with chronic dry eye or who have undergone surgery or trauma resulting in an irregular cornea.

Gulden’s Trial Lens Multi-Pinhole
■ The new Trial Lens Multi-Pinhole, by Gulden Ophthalmics, fits all standard 38-mm trial frames. It also fits all four- and eight-well flippers. The multi-pinhole has five pinhole sizes, ranging from 0.8 mm to 1.5 mm, with the smaller pinholes providing routine acuity testing and the larger pinholes providing testing for suspected reduced vision via decreases in retinal illumination. The Trial Lens Multi-Pinhole is made of durable, glossy ABS plastic. It can test visual acuity by employing a simple means to focus light, eliminating the effects of refractive errors during testing.

GEBAUER SLC MICROKERATOME FOR LASIK
■ Gebauer recently released new packaging that allows surgeons to prepare its SLc microkeratome for LASIK more quickly. The packaging includes a precision single-use head with a pre-mounted blade which can be used for a range of flap-thicknesses. The company says it also safeguards an error-free set-up process with minimal actions and handling and can be combined with a variety of suction rings.

ALCON ILEVRO SUSPENSION
■ Ilevro suspension is a new, once-daily treatment for pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery, Alcon says in a recent statement. The topical NSAID is meant to be used starting one day before surgery and then for two weeks afterward. Studies have shown 65% of patients using Ilevro had less inflammation after 14 days and 86% reported less ocular pain and showed less measureable signs of inflammation at the end of treatment than patients treated with its vehicle.

FCI VITREORETINAL DEVICES AND INSTRUMENT LINE
■ FCI Ophthalmics is introducing a new line of devices and instruments specifically for vitreoretinal procedures, according to a company release. The new line will include a wide range or disposable laser probes, fiber optic probes and laser illumination sources. It will also include single use and reusable Backflush handles and reservoirs (for passive and active aspiration), disposable PFCL and subretinal cannulas, scleral bucking components and vitrectomy lenses.
Additionally, the line will include an intravitreal injection assistant called Invitra and a one-step, self-rotating trocar system for easy access to the posterior segment called Retilock.

TEARSCIENCE LIPIVIEW VERSION 2.0
■ The FDA has cleared TearScience’s Lipiview version 2.0 software for new indications. The new indication concerns the software’s ability to measure the absolute thickness of the tear film lipid layer in nanometers. The idea is to assist in dry eye treatment by identifying a common cause of dry eye symptoms: lipid layer deficiencies. The upgraded software will also acquire a patient’s blinking process to help identify partial blinkers.

OPTOVUE ICAM FUNDUS CAMERA
■ The FDA has granted 510(k) clearance to Optovue for its new non-mydriatic fundus camera, the iCam. The camera produces 45° color fundus images. It also images external ocular structures. Additionally, it features a 12-bit CCD sensor and LED light source. The device includes a simple joystick control, focusing and positioning is designed to expedite the photography process.

OPTOVUE IVUE SD-OCT
■ Optovue has also received FDA clearance for the normative database functionality of its iVue SD-OCT system. The normative database is a diagnostic tool that provides analysis information to be used as a clinical reference. The database provides quantitative comparisons of the retina, retinal nerve fiber layer, ganglion cell complex and optic disc measurements. After scans are captured, the normative comparison analysis adjusts for the patient’s age, optic disc size and scan signal strength. The database is included with the iVue system and software updates will be provided free-of-charge to current iVue owners.

BAUSCH + LOMB VICTUS FEMTOSECOND LASER
■ Bausch + Lomb, in a partnership with Technolas Perfect Vision (TPV) have received 510(k) FDA clearance on arcuate incisions for the Victus Femtosecond Laser platform. The laser is now cleared for use in the creation of penetrating arcuate cuts and incisions in the cornea of patients undergoing cataract surgery or other ophthalmic treatment requiring such cuts or incisions. The platform, designed for laser refractive cataract surgery, was previously cleared for capsulotomies, corneal flap creation, LASIK or other procedures requiring initial lamellar resection of the cornea and anterior capsulotomy during cataract surgery. Victus has been used in more than 2,000 surgeries in Europe since 2011 when it received CE clearance.
