The quality matches the standard tungsten light, the company says, but with added benefits. For instance, LED lights don’t require any bulb changes. LED lights also offer a light spectrum that illuminates minute details in the anterior chamber. WET-FIELD OSHER THERMODOT TORIC MARKER

■ This new toric marker was designed to improve the marking required for ophthalmic procedures, including astigmatic keratotomy and toric IOL implantation. Created with the aid of cataract surgeon Robert H. Osher, MD, the ThermoDot is made to provide a more stable, precise and easily visualized mark than ink. “Ink may be excellent for staining the capsule, but it is poor for marking the ocular surface because it often diffuses or may entirely disappear,” Dr. Osher says. The Wet-Field ThermoDot’s mark lasts throughout the duration of the procedure, the company says.

MacPractice says this is the first Mac-native platform with HIE capability. ■ A touchscreen compatible version of the ManagementPlus EHR and practice management software system will be unveiled at ASCRS 2013 in San Francisco. The touchscreen templates will eliminate the need for a mouse and keyboard, opting instead for the use of a stylus or just a finger. The system is Windows 8 compatible and will be accessible on tablet devices. The templates are also designed to integrate seamlessly between desktop computers and tablet devices.

■ This imaging device has the capability to perform both structural OCT imaging and functional microperimetry testing. The FDA recently cleared the microperimetry test function, which evaluates retinal sensitivity. The test runs in conjunction with a high-speed confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope and provides real-time tracking of retinal vessels. With the newly approved function, doctors can monitor changes in a patient’s retinal function in a selected location over time.

■ Tonosafe disposable prisms eliminate the need to clean and disinfect prisms between IOL measurements, check for prism damage or monitor prism age. Using disposable prisms reduced the risk of corneal damage due to cross-infection between patients. Haag-Streit even designed these prisms to fit any Goldmann or Perkins contact tonometer. Now that the company is renewing interest in Tonosafe, it’s offering free sample boxes for visitors to its Web site.
