DISPOSABLE PRESBYOPIC CONTACT LENS
■ For presbyopes comes a new option in disposable contact lenses from CooperVision. Proclear 1-day multifocal daily disposable lenses are designed for both the daily and occasional wearer. CooperVision hopes they'll be seen as an alternative to progressive spectacles or reading glasses.
The process of selecting the right lens, the manufacturer contends, will be streamlined too, due to a center-near aspheric design as well as a simplified fitting approach.
The lenses are made using a dryness-reducing material and sphere powers from +6.00 to −10.00 (0.50 steps after −6.00); a base curve of 8.7 mm; and a diameter of 14.2 mm. Their single power profile can accommodate patients up to +2.50 ADD power.

MADDOX PHORIA
■ Gulden Ophthalmics says their new handheld device designed to detect and measure exophoria and esophoria conditions of anisophoria is easy to adapt to. The self-contained unit combines a large aperture (25mm), a red Maddox mounted perpendicular to the handle, and a 10 PD (prisimdiopter) prism in a rotating disc and can be used vertically or horizontally. Exophoria or esophoria show up in diopters when the patient sees a streak pass through a spot of light. With this in mind, Gulden's device employs red Maddox rods that react with the patient's vision.
When the handle is vertical, Maddox rods are horizontal and the patient sees a vertical streak. When the handle is horizontal, Maddox rods are vertical and the patient sees a horizontal streak. This piece is designed for testing in real space, not behind or in conjunction with a phoropter.
