KEY EVENTS

• Glaucoma Day, Friday, April 20: Titled, “Pressure is Important – But Don't Lose Sight of the Vision! Glaucoma Treatment in a Cataract and Refractive Context,” this day will feature many updates and case studies on what anterior segment surgeons should know about glaucoma.
• Cornea Day, Friday, April 20: With an overview of corneal issues in anterior segment surgery, infectious and inflammatory disease and innovations in corneal surgery, this program will include lectures, panel discussions, debates and surgical videos.
• ASCRS Resident and Fellow Day, Saturday, April 21: This free one-day meeting will cover topics like finding a job, the benefits of private and academic practice, billing and coding, and contract negotiation.
• Hall of fame inductions, Saturday, April 21: Jack Holladay, MD, and Louis Braille will be inducted into the ASCRS Ophthalmology Hall of Fame for their noted accomplishments.
• Binkhorst Lecture, Saturday, April 21: Delivered by Randall J. Olson, MD, chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, this opening general session's topic is, “Where Are We on the Road to Optical Perfection?”
• Charles D. Kelman Innovator's Lecture, Sunday, April 22: Douglas D. Koch, MD, professor of ophthalmology at the Cullen Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, will lecture on the subject of “Corneal Optics for IOL Selection: Cracking the Code.” He will discuss new advances in technology and how to address accuracy of IOL calculations, visual quality, depth of focus and IOL toricity to optimize surgical results.
• Lecture on Science and Medicine, Sunday, April 22: Michael Osterhold, PhD, MPH, a leader on influenza pandemic preparedness, is an expert on the effects of using biological agents as weapons targeting civilian populations. He is also the author of the New York Times best-seller, “Living Terrors: What America Needs to Know to Survive the Coming Bioterrorist Catastrophe.”
• Femto-phaco presentations, Saturday & Sunday, April 21-22: The hot topic of this year's meeting, many lectures will be delivered on the pros, cons and general updates of this growing technique. Check your ASCRS program for specific times and locations, but here's a brief glimpse of a few presentations:
