Implementing an Image & Data Management System
With the expanding array of office based diagnostic and biometric technology being employed by ophthalmologists, a new office workflow challenge has emerged — that of capturing, storing, organizing, and analyzing the data as efficiently as possible. Whether the benefits of electronic medical records are cost effective and outweigh the disadvantages remains a controversial question for many ophthalmology practices. However, digital data management systems have emerged that are EMRcompatible but can be employed independently of whether one is using electronic or paper charts. The Zeiss Forum image/data management system is one such technology. Here, several ophthalmologists discuss their implementation of, and experience with, this new technology.
