PSL PORTABLE SLIT LAMP

■ Keeler has developed the new PSL Classic Portable Slit Lamp for nonambulatory patient visits, off-site clinics, examinations of young children and patients who don't fit into the traditional examination lane. The PSL delivers precision optics into a handheld unit, says Keeler.

The PSL's advanced optics offer x10 and x16 "flip lever" magnification, with illumination control down to zero. Its back-up facility ensures power 100 percent of the time. The PSL slit and wheels include slits from 0.15 to 1.6 mm wide, a 12-mm circle, and a 1-mm square to produce anterior flare, aiding in the diagnosis of uveitis. Red-free, blue and neutraldensity filters come as standard.

ZIRGAN

■ Zirgan (ganciclovir ophthalmic gel) 0.15% for ocular herpes is the first innovation in the US topical ophthalmic antiviral class in 30 years. Zirgan is a topical ophthalmic gel formulation that appears clear and colorless. The recommended dosing regimen for Zirgan is one drop in the affected eye five times per day (approximately every three hours while awake) until the corneal ulcer heals, and then one drop three times per day for seven days.

■ Volk Optical has introduced an HR line of high-resolution lenses, including the HR Wide Field and HR Centralis. HR lenses deliver extremely fine, distortion-free viewing for peripheral exams and PRP procedures, as well as posterior pole and focal/grid procedures, says Volk.

The HR Wide Field reveals details as far out as the ora serrata. The HR Centralis provides detailed views of the central retina, with a 1.08x magnification to improve visualization capabilities with pupils as small as 4 mm.
