Faster Axial Length measurements possible with Iolmaster 500 Biometer
■ Carl Zeiss Meditec announces the release of its IOLMaster 500, a biometer with dual-measurement capabilities that allows simultaneous calculations of axial length and keratometry. The upgraded device is twice the speed of previous models, the manufacturer says, capable of completing measurements in as little as 80 seconds. The device makes use of composite signal filtering to exclude poor readings and increase the percentage of measurable patients.
Practices that use CZM's A-scan Synergy ultrasound will enjoy seamless integration of biometry data, a time-saver that's especially helpful in difficult cases such as dense cataracts. The IOLMaster 500 also outputs data in a format ready for use with the popular Holladay IOL Consultant calculator.
The user interface, featuring easy-to-understand “traffic light” reporting, allows technicians to get accurate results regardless of experience level.

E2427 Whitman Double-Ended LRI Marker
■ Bausch + Lomb Storz Ophthalmic Instruments introduces the E2427 Whitman Double-Ended LRI Marker, featuring two astigmatic dials.
While one end is marked for 3 mm, 5 mm and 7 mm, the other end shows 4 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm, allowing use with a variety of dioptric treatments. The marker uses chord lengths, rather than degrees, for treatment parameters. The central mark for noting axis also works well for marking toric lens implants, according to the manufacturer.

New SLT Lens
■ Wilson Ophthalmic introduces the Volk SLT Lens, a 1.0x magnification lens designed for the needs of selective laser trabeculoplasty with a single reflecting surface, a flanged contact element and broadband coating.
The curved upper lens keeps the laser beam profile circular for consistent laser spot placement, while the large internally reflective facet ensures quality viewing of the examination angle.
Stability of laser delivery is increased when the contact is used with coupling fluid.

200TX Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging Device
■ Optos introduces the 200Tx, an ultra-widefield retinal imaging device designed for both general ophthalmologists and vitreoretinal specialists. The 200Tx is the first imaging device that allows visualization of ultra-wide-field autofluorescence changes to the retinal pigment epithelium, according to the manufacturer.
Offering multiple wavelength imaging options including color, red-free, fluorescein angiography and auto fluorescence, the device provides simultaneous pole to periphery views of over 80% of the retina in a single image capture.

Tru-Size Diamond Knife
■ Bausch + Lomb Storz Ophthalmic Instruments has released the Tru-Size diamond knife, featuring incision widths engraved on the diamond blade to ensure incision size accuracy.
An asymmetric 1.75 mm blade edge allows a straight tunnel through the cornea, making water-tight incisions easier and reducing corneal distortion, according to the company. The blade is also available in a 1.8 mm to 2.2 mm trapezoid knife for microincision cataract surgery.
