Focus on Autorefractors
RK-F1
Canon Medical Systems
■ The Canon Full Auto-Refractor Keratometer motorized optical head automatically aligns, acquiring readings and automatically moving over to the opposite eye to perform the same function. The unit can also be operated manually to acquire readings.
The RK-F1 replaces the conventional joystick with a trackball and roller. Once the pupil is visible in the monitor, the user presses the start button to begin to complete measurements of refraction and keratometry. For refraction, dioptric measurement range of -30 D to +22 D allows examination of severe myopia and other abnormalities. For keratometry, the radius of curvature extends from 5.5 mm to 10.0 mm.
The RK-F1 can be used to make a series of measurements at a 30° angle from the eye's center along the attentive meridians.
Through retro-illumination, the RK-F1 delivers a detailed view of the eyes that is particularly useful for identifying cataracts, vitreous opacity, scars and other serious eye problems.
A motorized chinrest offers easy adjustment of the unit when beginning the eye examination.
The layout of the operation panel makes the unit easy to use from either a seated or standing position. Control keys for each of the unit's main functions are grouped together for convenience.

RT-7000 AND RC-5000
Tomey
■ The RT-7000 autorefractor/kerato-meter/topographer takes the place of three devices and has dry eye software inside. The touch-screen alignment of the RT-7000 aligns the eye center with the center of the screen simply by touching the eye shown on the screen. The auto alignment and auto shot functions then start measurement immediately. The RT-7000 combines accurate measurements with short exam time, says Tomey.
The RC-5000 is the newest generation of autorefractor/keratometers. Its features include automatic touch-screen measurements and a high-speed, built-in printer. The touch-screen display allows users to perform both refraction and keratometry automatically with one movement. Users may capture the eye on the display by touching the center of the pupil with a fingertip. The RC-5000 will automatically align and begin measuring. Both devices are EMR compatible.

iTRACE VISUAL FUNCTION ANALYZER
Tracey Technologies
■ The iTrace Visual Function Analyzer is a combination autorefractor, corneal topographer, wavefront aberrometer, autokeratometer and pupillometer. The iTrace utilizes ray-tracing wavefront aberrometry, capturing 256 data points sequentially in less than 400 milliseconds. By projecting thin-beam laser points into the pupil and charting the retinal location of each data point, the wavefront sensor can calculate the precise amount of deviation induced in the optical system.
The iTrace can provide detailed multi-zonal refraction analysis, and by combining corneal wavefront analysis with whole-eye aberrometry, the iTrace system can isolate whether aberrations originate in the cornea or in the internal optics of the eye.
