■ Carl Zeiss Meditec says the OPMI VISU 140 offers all of the basic functions necessary for efficient cataract surgery, including a main lens and zoom optics that are apochromatically corrected, and coaxial illumination for red reflex. The OPMI VISU 160 is designed for both anterior- and posterior-segment procedures. Its DeepView depth-of-field management system enables adjustment for optimizing either depth of field or light transmission and resolution.

The OPMI VISU 210, with Superlux Eye xenon illumination, provides a white light that CZM says meets even the highest demands, resulting in a bright, high-contrast image with natural color. The VISU 210 is a unique assistant's microscope, with almost weightless positioning due to magnetic locking brakes which complete the system.

THE KHOSLA K-6001

■ Khosla’s K-6001 operating microscope has a Nikon stereo-zoom optical head and 10x eyepiece with a 45° vertical inclination. Its interpupillary distance ranges from 52 mm - 75 mm. It has a working distance of 181 mm and zooming range between 0.8 - 3.5x.

The K-6001 comes with counter-balanced spring arms, which can be rotated to 320° with lock. The microscope also comes with a continuous foot control without steps. The field of view is between 52.5 mm - 12 mm and total magnification range is 4x - 17.5x. It has four caster wheels for easy handling that ensure absolute stability.

THE LOM SERIES

■ The Light Operation Microscope (LOM) series is Konan’s newest line of operation microscopes for ophthalmology. The microscopes have a "onetouch clamp," providing an easy locking mechanism. The optics angle can be adjusted by a lever and users can then release the lever to fix the optics in the selected position.

A well-balanced pantograph arm helps in maneuvering the microscope. LOM also features the high-eye point, which allows users wearing glasses to look through the microscope. A builtin beam splitter enables easy upgrades to video-assisted systems.

Leica ophthalmology microscopes feature direct illumination, which can be highly focused to provide crisper images and more consistent illumination throughout the field of view. There is never degradation of illumination, which can be a problem with fiber optic illumination systems, says Leica.

The M844, Leica’s premium class surgical microscope, features APO OptiChrome optics and gives both the surgeon and assistant 100% illumination and 100% stereopsis. The M820, Leica’s mid-range microscope, also features APO OptiChrome.

Both the Leica M844 and M820 feature an integrated video monitor and StepCycle, which allows the surgeon to preprogram the microscope functions for each step of a surgical procedure.

The M620 is the latest addition to Leica’s portfolio and is an ideal and economical solution for surgery centers.

The OP-2Z Operation Microscope provides crisp, high stereopsis, zoom optics and bright halogen illumination. Imaging from anterior to intraocular structures are produced and viewed with distinct precision. Coaxial illumination is aided by a light-guide system utilizing the halogen lamp. The OP-2Z features a continuous zoom system incorporating a 4.5x - 18x magnification range and optional X-Y movement device, each footswitch-controllable.

OMS-800 OPERATION MICROSCOPE

■ Topcon introduces the OMS-800 Operation Microscope with Optical Fiber Free Intravitreal Surgery System (OFFISS). This system allows for bimanual vitrectomies and other types of retinal surgeries without the need of handheld fiber-optic illumination.

The OMS-800 features refinements such as a double-focusing mechanism, electromagnetic locks and programmable footswitch.

Topcon says the OMS-800 is suitable for all ophthalmic operations.

Additionally, the OMS-800 offers comfort for the surgeon and assistant, plus clear, bright views of the structures of the eye and total control over all mechanical and electronic functions, says Topcon.
