IOLMASTER
Carl Zeiss Meditec
■ The IOLMaster has emerged as the standard of care where precise refractive outcomes are essential, as with the new multifocal and accommodative IOLs, says CZM. This easy-to-use, non-contact, all-in-one instrument measures axial length, corneal curvature, anterior chamber depth and white-to-white. IOL power calculations include third- and fourth-generation formulas as well as post-refractive surgery and phakic IOL modes. The enhanced platform offers new networking options and increased measurement speed for greater practice efficiency. An integrated lens constant optimization program allows for efficient personalization to enhance outcomes. Software version 5 (Advanced Technology Software) simplifies operation through improved signal processing in axial length mode and signaling of the optimal measurement setting in keratometry.

THE PRAGER SHELL
ESI, Inc.
■ ESI, Inc is the exclusive manufacturer of the Prager Shell for immersion biometry, offering eight different models. The Prager Shell models are manufactured according to each A-scan manufacturer’s specifications for consistent and accurate probe placement.
ESI’s proprietary and patent-pending design automatically positions the ultrasound probe perpendicular within the shell, and at the correct distance from the eye, insuring an optimum scan, says the company.
To reduce the potential for patient cross-contamination, an integrated luer connector is located on the side of the instrument for easy replacement of the used contaminated Prager Shell tubing kit. Replacement kits are offered both with and without a oneway flow check-valve.

Nidek, Inc.
■ The Nidek US-4000 EchoScan is a comprehensive ultrasound, which includes A/B-scan, biometry and pachymetry all in one compact, lightweight device. High resolution images are achieved through 400 lines of sampling over 60° and displayed on a 1024 x 768 XGA, touch-panel monitor. High-density scanning sectors provide ideal images for the most accurate diagnosis, says Nidek.
Using state-of-the-art algorithms, anterior chamber depth, axial length measurements and IOL power calculations are performed rapidly and accurately. Accurate measurements for dense cataracts are accomplished easily and automatically by pressing the "Dense Cat" switch and "Gate select" switches. The pachymetry mode offers precise measurement of corneal thickness within a maximum ±5mm.

A-SCAN DB-3100
Ocuserv Instruments, Inc.
■ A-Scan DB-3100 is designed to be the most versatile unit for ultrasonic biometry and IOL power calculations, says Ocuserv. Using a computer for data entry, display and memory enables the DB-3100 to retain information on an unlimited number of IOLs, physician profiles and patient data.
The intraocular distance measurement can be performed using either contact or immersion method in auto or manual mode. Pattern recognition algorithm in automode selects scans along the visual axis. All scans performed are stored in patient files.
IOL power calculations are performed using the HofferQ formula, which provides comparative results to SRK/T and Holladay formulas. It allows up to five IOL styles per calculation.

DSAEK/DXEK SET
Asico LLC
■ The DSAEK/DXEK set of instruments is designed with a special curvature that allows for easy access to the inner corneal dome without having to exit the anterior chamber. The set offers a dexatome and a stripper for removal of diseased endothelium. For previous posterior lamellar keratoplasty patients with hanging stroma, the set provides 20-g micro scissors and micro forceps to efficiently remove any excess endothelium or stroma. The stromal scrubber is designed to effectively roughen the corneal stroma periphery within the Descemetorhexis circle for preparation of the donor cornea insertion.
For removal of the damaged endothelium and implantation of the donor cornea, forceps with 120° vertically- oriented handles and horizontally- oriented carrier platforms allow optimal positioning of the donor corneal disk within the host anterior chamber. The design of the fixation hook allows for effective fixation of the donor "taco" during air injection to unfold the donor disk within the recipient anterior chamber. Once the donor cornea has been implanted, all regions of the outer corneal surface can be gently and smoothly ironed to diminish and/or eliminate donor disk wrinkles caused by air or fluid at the donor-host interface with the glider.

FUNCTIONAL VISION ANALYZER
Stereo Optical Company, Inc.
■ The Functional Vision Analyzer (FVA) offers a number of exams to evaluate functional vision and better understand patients’ quality of vision. Background illumination levels inside the unit are constantly monitored and controlled, eliminating environmental variables.
Exams can be performed under a variety of conditions and include: visual acuity — monocular and binocular at near, distant and midrange (optional), contrast sensitivity testing with the functional acuity contrast test (F.A.C.T.) which can be performed in day and night testing conditions, both with and without glare and with choice of two different glare levels, stereopsis, color perception testing and potential acuity (pinhole).
The FVA features an upgraded EyeView software program that utilizes a digital image processor to produce a pictorial model of the patients’ functional vision based on their F.A.C.T. contrast sensitivity data. EyeView can also display contrast sensitivity curves as well as the raw data. Direct comparison of patients’ functional vision is displayed beside a model of normal functional vision. The software allows for pre- and post-treatment comparisons. All exam results are stored in a patient database.

OASIS FORM FIT INTRACANALICULAR PLUG
Wilson Ophthalmic
■ The Oasis Form Fit intracanalicular plug is a single-size solution for dysfunctional tear syndrome. Supplied in a dry state, Form Fit expands into a soft, pliable, gelatinous material when it contacts tear film and takes approximately 10 minutes to completely hydrate and expand to approximately 20 times its original size. With these hydrogel plugs there is no need for punctal measurement, there is less inventory to store, patients have no foreign body sensation and the plug is easily flushed out if it is necessary to remove it.
