The Latest Data on Staff Benefits and Salary Reviews
Non-provider personnel costs continue to be the highest expense item for most ophthalmology practices, often comprising more than 65% of total practice overhead. The 2006 Staff Salary Survey, published by The Health Care Group in Plymouth Meeting, Pa., provides hard data to compare and structure your staff's compensation and benefits.
The survey is organized by staff position, geographic region and Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). For each position, a region-by-region survey is provided first, followed by data divided according to MSA comprising various regions of the country. These tables show the national averages for employee benefits and salary reviews as reported by all medical practices in the 2006 Staff Salary Survey.

About this data: The information, statistics and national averages in this installment of Stat Tracker were drawn from The Health Care Group's 2006 Staff Salary Survey. In the fourth quarter of 2005, questionnaires were mailed to almost 9,800 medical practices nationwide and 739 practices responded, including 130 ophthalmology practices. The 2006 Staff Salary Survey has minimal responses from the coastal and inland areas of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi affected by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. The complete 2006 Staff Salary Survey contains more staff categories and additional results, summarizes data from all respondents to the survey, and is organized by staff position and geographic region. For more information about the survey or to order, call Mark E. Kropiewnicki, J.D., LL.M., at (800) 473-0032.
