BINOCULAR INDIRECT OPHTHALMOSCOPES
Welch Allyn
The Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscope (BIO) is one of the most advanced BIOs available on the market today, says Welch Allyn. It offers state-of-the-art features along with a lightweight, comfortable fit and increased stability. The optics in the Welch Allyn BIO are aligned using an advanced video alignment system that guarantees that all components have the precise orientation required for accurate viewing. The BIO's halogen illumination system lasts longer than any other BIO lighting source, says Welch Allyn. A convergence control allows for the synchronization of illumination and visual pathways for viewing in patients with small pupils. A well-padded leather headband with a new "swooped" design improves comfort and viewing stability and is easy to adjust for a secure fit. In addition, with an internally sealed optical system that protects vital optics, mirror assemblies and housings, the Welch Allyn BIO is durable for busy practices.

The HRT3 analyzes glaucoma progression, is portable and easy-to-use. |
|
HRT3
Heidelberg Engineering GmbH introduces the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph 3 (HRT3), a newly enhanced version of its flagship product for the assessment, diagnosis and management of glaucoma. Like its predecessor, the HRT3 uses laser technology to produce a topographical image of a patient's optic nerve, providing an objective analysis of the structure's cup, rim and retinal nerve fiber layer.
Several new features have been incorporated into the HRT3, including the Fast Check Glaucoma Probability Score, which is generated using an advanced form of artificial intelligence called a relevance vector machine. This sophisticated analysis provides a statistical probability of glaucoma using ethnic-specific databases. In addition, the software eliminates the need to draw contour lines or use reference planes and provides real-time feedback to assist the operator in acquiring a quality image.
The HRT3 monitors a patient's condition over time, comparing baseline images to follow-up examinations and highlighting areas of statistically significant progression. The HRT3 is a portable, laptop-based system that can be placed in a compact carrying case.
