This
site offers information on uveitis
According to the American Uveitis Society, 38,000 Americans are diagnosed with uveitis every year. Prevent Blindness America (PBA), in partnership with Bausch & Lomb, has launched a new Web site whose address is www.preventblindness.org/uveitis. The purpose of the site is to help both patients and healthcare professionals to obtain information and resources needed for the prevention of vision loss from uveitis.
Daniel D. Garrett, senior vice president of PBA states, "Although there is no cure [for uveitis], there are many steps that patients can take to preserve their sight and slow the progression of vision loss immensely. By offering this information free to the public, both online and through our toll-free number, we can help people battle this disease with the right information."
The new site is comprehensive, offering a wide range of information on uveitis-related issues. Clicking on the icon "Uveitis Learning Center for Patients and Consumers" provides education to patients on topics such as uveitis symptoms, possible treatments and recommendations of how to live with the disease. The graphics help to illustrate where the disease resides and provides definitions for the parts of the eye that may be affected by uveitis. The text covers the topic thoroughly and is easy for a layperson to understand. Basic questions, such as "What is uveitis? What are the signs?" and "How do doctors diagnose and treat the disease?" provide patients with a clearer understanding of the disease and enable them to be better prepared for participating in selecting a course of treatment.
The "Uveitis Resource Center for Eye Care Professionals" section provides links to uveitis management resources, article abstracts and patient educational materials. Along with providing links to other relevant sites, a number of eyecare-related documents are available for downloading and printing.
In summary, www.preventblindness.org/uveitis can help both patients and health care professionals find valuable information and resources they need on uveitis.
