This Site Focuses on Cleveland Clinic Cole
Eye Institute
Opened in 1999, the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute is a state-of-the-art eyecare facility with world-class ophthalmologists specializing in eye disease. Treating more than 140,000 patients per year, the institute cares for adults and children with all types of ophthalmic conditions and diseases. The Institute's Web site, which can be accessed at www.clevelandclinic.org/eye, offers a plethora of information for both patients and physicians.
Content in the Patient Information section is well organized and the writing is clear and concise. The graphics and animation in "Take a Tour of the Eye" help users to better understand where eye problems are physically located, while the Dictionary of Terms helps with the basic vocabulary of the structure of the eye and eye diseases. The Disease section provides fact sheets designed to offer general health information including disease definitions, causes, symptoms, detection and treatment. The Staff Directory, Calendar of Events and Products sections offer a wide range of useful information, from learning about Cole Eye Institute's staff to a schedule of seminars specific diseases or treatments.
The Physician Information section provides eyecare professionals with a staff directory, publication information, additional ophthalmology links, information on the International Society for Genetic Eye Diseases and a link to Medical Education. The education link covers the Institute's mission of becoming the pre-eminent center for patient care, vision research and education. The depth of the training program is discussed as well as the opportunity for doctors to perform various types of research.
An entire section of the site is dedicated to research and Cole Institute's vision of ridding the world of now incurable eye diseases. Studies, clinical trials, publications, research staff, research labs and abstracts are also available at this site.
