The Latest Data on Implementing Wavefront Technology
At a refractive surgery symposium conducted by VISX, Inc., during the 2004 American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) meeting in San Diego, refractive surgeons in attendance were asked to respond to a series of questions on how they're integrating wavefront into their practices. The results indicate that most surgeons performing custom LASIK now have a dedicated wavefront technician to perform wavefront exams, and that most surgeons prefer to have wavefront exams performed prior to the day of surgery.
Overall, refractive surgeons are enthusiastic about the advent of wavefront-driven ablation, with 70% of survey respondents saying that they expect their 2004 LASIK procedure volume to be up 10% or more compared with 2003.
Following are the surgeons' responses to key survey questions:
About this data: The information included in this Stat Tracker column was collected at a refractive surgery symposium conducted and co-sponsored by excimer laser developer VISX. The symposium, which took place April 30, 2004 at the ASCRS meeting in San Diego, was open to all meeting attendees. Refractive surgeons who responded to the survey questions used handheld remote control devices to register their responses. Questions in this survey received an average of 146 responses.
