The Latest Data on Staff Salaries
Nonprovider personnel cost continues to be the highest expense item for most medical practices, often comprising more than 65% of total practice overhead. The 2003 Staff Salary Survey, just published by The Health Care Group, located in Plymouth Meeting, Pa., gives you hard data for comparing and structuring your staff's compensation. Below are the national averages for all medical practices as reported in the 2003 Staff Salary Survey.
Note that staff averages are given on a per-hour basis while Office Manager, Business Manager, and Administrator averages are given on an annual salary basis.
About this data: The staff salary national averages in this installment of Stat Tracker were drawn from The Health Care Group's 2003 Staff Salary Survey. In the fourth quarter of 2002, questionnaires were mailed to 8,800 medical practices nationwide. Approximately 1,100 practices responded, including 146 ophthalmology practices. The complete 2003 Staff Salary Survey, with more staff categories and additional results, is organized by staff position and geographic region. For more information about the survey, call Mark E.
