GYC-1000
Nidek
Nidek is marketing its just-introduced GYC-1000 green laser/photocoagulator as the industry's smallest and lightest green laser. The portable, solid-state laser provides up to 1.7W of energy and plugs into any wall outlet. It has its own built-in handle, making it easy to move between locations and rooms.
The GYC-1000 can be used in the office or OR, with many delivery options for slit lamps, indirects and endophotocoagulation. It has a dual fiber option for immediate switching between delivery systems.
Spot size is adjustable down to 50 microns, permitting ALTs to be performed at standard parameters.

OCULIGHT SL/SLX
Iridex
The Iris Medical OcuLight SL/SLx infrared (810-nm) solid-state lasers manufactured by Iridex Corporation are indicated for retinal photocoagulation and glaucoma. For glaucoma management, the SL and SLx combined with the G-Probe are ideally suited for transscleral cyclophotocoagulation of end-stage glaucoma. The G-Probe is a non-invasive fiber-optic laser handpiece specially designed for the selective ablation of ciliary processes. G-Probe treatment is repeatable and can be performed in the office.

SELECTA II
Lumenis
The Selecta II Glaucoma Laser System is a portable Q-switched 532 Nd:YAG laser used to perform Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty on patients with open-angle glaucoma. The system selectively targets pigmented cells and increases fluid output, lowering IOP.
The Selecta II is equipped with a Q-switch that produces a 3-nanosecond low-energy beam of light, which does not burn the trabecular meshwork. The laser's short pulse targets melanin-rich cells, but doesn't allow time for heat to spread to adjacent non-melanin cells. This evokes a cellular response mechanism to increase aqueous outflow.

VISULAS 532/YAG COMBI
Carl Zeiss Meditec
The Combi features both a 532-nm coagulation laser and a 1064-nm disruption laser completely integrated into one laser slit lamp.
Because the Combi can be switched quickly between the coagulation and disruption modes, Carl Zeiss Meditec says it's suitable for performing fast, safe and patient-friendly combined iridotomy procedures. The Combi offers the full power of the laser at small spot sizes (50 microns), and its design prevents beam-clipping, enabling the Combi to deliver an accurate spot with full energy.

The blades of the Rousseau IntraLase Flap Spreader are shaped to conform to the curvature of the cornea. |
|
INTRALASE/LASIK FORCEPS
Rhein Medical and Paul B. Rousseau designed the Rousseau IntraLase Flap Spreader for the IntraLase procedure and LASIK
retreatments.
The instrument is reverse-acting with two thin, spatulated blades. When you compress the handles, the tips of the blades open, applying equal, opposing pressure between the flap and stromal bed.
In addition, the even separation of the flap from the bed provided by the spatulated blades helps to disrupt stromal micro-adhesions in the flap interface.

MEDINA CHOPPER
Angel Medina, M.D., has designed an irrigating chopper for micro-incision cataract surgery.
The Medina Irrigating Nucleus Chopper features an end-opening, 19-gauge shaft for maximum irrigation in a closed environment. The tip has a wedge-shaped inferior edge for chopping and a smooth superior notch to push back the iris when the surgeon encounters a small pupil.

PROGRESION
ANALYSIS
Carl Zeiss Meditec has introduced Humphrey Glaucoma Progression Analysis software as an upgrade for the Humphrey Field Analyzer II and II-I instruments. The software is designed to differentiate true glaucoma progression from random variability in visual field testing. The new software applies knowledge gained from a multicenter clinical trial, in which the actual test-retest variability of hundreds of glaucoma patients was measured.
