Eyetowncenter.com
Started recently by three practicing ophthalmologists, Eyetowncenter.com has a stated mission to serve as "an online community where ophthalmologists can interact in an informal, yet professional manner, to learn from one another and improve their practices and patient care."
The Eyetowncenter site "offers you an opportunity to meet other ophthalmologists online, share information and discuss challenging cases without having to track down a colleague by phone or wait for the next seminar you attend," says site co-founder Dan Jewelewicz, M.D.
Adds Bruce Segal, M.D., another of the site's co-founders: "By posting images on the Eyetowncenter site, I can quickly reach a large number of ophthalmologists who can review the images and provide feedback on my diagnosis and treatment plan."
The Eyetowncenter.com site, which provides free access to the ophthalmic community, has a clean and professional look. The site's many discussion groups enable you to exchange ideas and opinions on a variety of medical and practice issues, including developments in specific subspecialties, coding questions, and assessments of various types/brands of equipment and new drugs.
"Eyetowncenter provided an easy way for me to poll a number of colleagues about their cost-benefit experience with an optic nerve head analyzer," says Howard Silverstein, M.D., the Web site's third co-founder.
The site also offers a number of other features, including columns by respected ophthalmic practice management consultant John Pinto and an ophthalmology board review section.
