ASTIGMATIC LENSES FOR HRT II

Heidelberg Engineering is selling a set of six astigmatic lenses to help you detect glaucoma or macular edema using the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph II (HRT II). The lenses attach magnetically to the HRT II eyepiece, allowing you to examine astigmatic patients without the need for their glasses.

The astigmatic lenses range in power from 1D to 6D. You can request them in plus or negative cylinder, or both.

PaperlessPractice Inc. has now introduced its LensCam and FrameCam virtual eyewear try-on systems in the United States.

Seated at a self-service kiosk in your practice, using touch-screen technology, patients are coached through the try-on process by an animated character named Wink. LensCam captures a close-up image of your patients and allows them to see what they look like in any shade of colored contact lens you dispense in your practice. This eliminates the traditional try-on process, which is costly and time-consuming. FrameCam captures and simultaneously displays four images of your patients in the frames they choose from your inventory. Patients can select their eyewear while wearing their prescription lenses.

Michael Neal, O.D., CEO of PaperlessPractice, says the unit pays for itself in a short time and can also help increase premium product sales, such as anti-reflective coatings and high-index lenses. The company will assist customers with kiosk tax-advantage worksheets and disabled-access tax credits.

Vistakon sandwiches the color in Acuvue 2 Colours between layers of etafilcon A.

Acuvue 2 Colours are available in seven colors. For light eyes, the lenses come in three "enhancer" colors: blue, green and aqua. For both light and dark eyes, the lenses come in four "opaque" colors: honey, green, blue and gray.

According to a Vistakon spokesperson, "Studies show that patients prefer Acuvue 2 Colours over CIBA Vision's Focus Softcolors in terms of performance, comfort, handling, vision and appearance. Studies also show that patients prefer Acuvue 2 Colours over Wesley Jessen's ColorBlends in terms of performance, comfort and vision."

LASEK INSTRUMENTS

Lee Shahinian, M.D., has developed two instruments for LASEK: the Shahinian LASEK Trephine and the Shahinian LASEK Alcohol Well.

The Trephine creates an epithelial flap during LASEK; it features a 270š cutting edge with a precalibrated 75-mm depth setting.

The Alcohol Well retains the alcohol solution on the epithelium during the procedure. The Alcohol Well is cone-shaped so the precut flap margin is visible, and it features dual rings to prevent leakage. OM
