ON THE
NET
This site contains
useful general eyecare information for your patients.
Funded by a grant from Pharmacia Corp., the maker of the glaucoma medication Xalatan, myhealthyeyes.com is a new Web site devoted to helping people protect their vision.
Protocol Driven Healthcare, Inc., which manages the site, says myhealthyeyes.com is the first interactive Web site that focuses specifically on eye care, eye safety and eye diseases. The site provides patients and their families with tools and information that can help them take an active role in managing their personal eye health. Individuals can assess their risk factors for various eye diseases, while those who are already being treated can track their tests, measurements and medications. Patients may also receive individualized education and support online from the myhealthyeyes.com team of specialists, or share ideas and experiences with other patients who have similar eye problems.
The site also answers many frequently asked questions about eye care, eye disease and treatment options. And it can assist patients in complying with their treatment programs by providing such interactive aids as personalized daily journals, reminders and unique charting capabilities.
"Myhealthyeyes.com is a valuable new tool to help you encourage patient compliance with a prescribed treatment and preventive care program," says Robert Fechtner, M.D., associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and a member of the Web site's advisory board. "This resource will encourage people to become more active participants in their own eye care as they receive support and education about all aspects of eye health."
