Chris A. Knobbe, M.D., is not only an ophthalmologist, he's also an Internet entrepreneur.
Dr. Knobbe, who practices in Denison, Texas, and serves as assistant clinical professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, is a big believer in the power of the Internet to market ophthalmology services. After searching in vain for an eyecare Web site that could deliver patient referrals by providing consistently interesting and updated educational content, he decided to create his own.
"My goal is to provide practices with an affordable and dynamic Web site; one that they can practically forget about while it drives traffic to them," says Dr. Knobbe.
Through his new initiative, EyeMDLink.com, Dr. Knobbe now offers ophthalmologists an opportunity to wrap their own practice Web sites around 1,000 pages of indexed, patient-friendly reviews of ophthalmic conditions and procedures. Much of the content is original, contributed by a number of nationally known ophthalmologists. EyeMDLink also features a patient referral system that can be searched by location, subspecialty, condition or procedure, and a monthly newsletter e-mailed to patients. And if you don't have your own Web site, Dr. Knobbe's technical team will create one for you and help you maintain it. EyeMDLink charges a basic fee of $100 a month to individual practitioners, plus small additional fees based on the number of unique visitors your site attracts and how many of these individuals actually make appointments.
