No Better Place for Change than Philly
Doug Parry
I've just finished reading David McCullough's outstanding biography of our second President, John Adams. This eye-opening book is a fantastic chronicle of Adams' life and the commitment, struggle, and sacrifice involved with our country's fight for independence. Of particular interest to me is that much of the book's events and Adams' life take place in Philadelphia. Having lived in the Philadelphia area for the past 21 years, it's fascinating to read of the city landscape then, and how it was used center stage in our fight for freedom.
And now, in about a month, Philadelphia will be host to the ASCRS meeting. It's always a great idea when in Philly to visit our sacred historic places like Independence Hall, Christ Church, and others. But as the fifth largest city in the country, Philadelphia has so much to offer with a nice blend of old and new.
Visitors like to ask locals what the good restaurants are. Three of my favorites are Striped Bass, La Famiglia, and Ralph's (cash only!), but of course you can't leave Philadelphia until you've had a cheesesteak and a soft pretzel!
CHANGE IS INEVITABLE
As we set our sights on Philadelphia for the ASCRS meeting, we're sad to see Dr. Alan Aker stepping down as our Chief Medical Editor. Dr. Aker has been at the helm since our launch in 1997, and it was his watchful guidance and insight that helped drive Ophthalmology Management to be the most important voice to today's practice. I consider myself privileged to have worked with him and look forward to his continued help and counsel on our editorial board.
Beginning with our May issue, we welcome our new Chief Medical Editor, Dr. Paul Koch, of Warwick, R.I. Dr. Koch has written seven ophthalmology books, and he also brings a lot of energy and expertise to our mission at Ophthalmology Management. He believes passionately in helping you to achieve the highest standards of practice and patient management.
I thank you for the opportunity to help with your practice success and I look forward to seeing you in Philadelphia!
