practices often have better insurance coverage, higher salaries and better
hours than other optical venues. You may also have bonus plans for your medical
staff that your optician can benefit from. And if you review yearly for merit
raises and bonuses for your medical staff, your optician will probably expect
the same, plus commissions.
If your optician receives merit raises and bonuses that she
may not have received in the past, you can choose not to offer commissions at
all, or to offer a smaller commission than what she may have earned in previous
jobs that offered less benefits.
