Researchers revealed that the latanoprost ophthalmic solution Xalatan caused a marked and sustained reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP) after 2 years of treatment.

The results of this open-label study demonstrate that latanoprost, applied once daily as a 0.005% solution, is effective in the reduction of IOP in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma over a sustained period of time. Additionally, the long-term follow-up in the patient population studies has not revealed any previously un-known ocular or systemic side effects.
