Criteria such as minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration are insufficient when evaluating an antibiotic, says James McCulley, M.D., of Dallas Texas. They dont take drug concentrations into account. Instead, Dr. McCulley recommends that you study the following:
- pharmacokinetics (bioavilability)
- pharmacotherapeutics
- pharmacodynamics
- "pharmacotorts" (legal ramifications) and pharmacoeconomics (cost issues).
