According to a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, more than 7% of resident physicians surveyed didn’t have positions within 6 months of finishing their residency.

Too few positions were cited as the cause for extended job hunting in ophthalmology, anesthesiology, cardiology and gastroenterology.

The American Medical Association says managed care is a culprit, too. Fewer healthcare dollars means fewer opportunities.
