American Medical Association delegates have adopted a resolution calling for limits on surgical co-management fees for optometrists and ophthalmologists who refer for surgery.
The resolution, proposed by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, calls for restricting the use of 54/-55 modifiers to circumstances that only promote patient well being. It also calls for the AMA to disseminate the proposed limitations on surgical co-management to the Health Care Financing Administration and other payers and also for the AMA to strongly encourage compliance with the proposed limitations.
