Robert Snyder, M.D., and Eric Donnenfeld, M.D., believe its time to consider using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) exclusively in many cases because they:
- prevent cystoid macular edema better than corticosteroids
- dont inhibit epithelial healing as much as corticosteroids
- dont minimize tissue strength in healing wounds
- avoid corticosteroid-induced glaucoma
- minimize the risk of opportunistic infections, slightly associated with corticosteroids
- provide both anesthetic and analgesic effects that steroids dont offer
- minimize photophobia better.
