1999 income survey shows a strong correlation between years in practice and how doctors fared. Younger independent ophthalmologists tended to see their gross rise; older doctors, on average had a lower gross in '98.
This may be explained by another strong correlation: those whose gross increased, on average, worked longer hours each week. The implication is that younger doctors are putting in longer hours and reaping the benefits, while older doctors are not.
