Haag-Streit has officially launched the METIS 900. The new ophthalmic microscope system brings Haag-Streit’s optics into the operating room, providing sharp clarity and precision during ophthalmic surgeries, the company said in a press release.
Featuring a stable coaxial red reflex, METIS delivers sharp visualization, and the system's optimized optics provide an accurate color reproduction, high light transmission, and a large depth of field, the company said.
Designed with the surgeon’s comfort in mind, surgeons have complete control of the microscope, along with a compact design that maximizes space and movement. Surgeons can filter, tilt, focus, and zoom via the programmable hand and/or foot switches and benefit from wireless control of up to 14 functions.
In addition, METIS offers complete control of glaucoma positioning, allowing surgeons to activate the motorized tilt at the touch of a button for effortless adjustment of the viewing angle. An adaptation to the binoculars enables smooth, one-handed repositioning with a sterile cover, ensuring a streamlined and efficient workflow during minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) procedures, the company said.
The METIS also offers optional integrated 4K video, delivering sharp color, clarity, and detail for all surgical procedures. The 27” touchscreen monitor is ergonomically positioned for optimal workflow, enabling real-time collaboration and easy documentation.
The modular structure of METIS allows surgeons to evolve their setup as new advancements become available—such as 3D heads-up displays—launching Q2 2025 to the US market.
In addition, the METIS offers sustainable LED illumination, reducing heat and energy consumption. Other features include an assistant microscope for collaborative learning, wide-angle fundus visualization for clear views, and the Microscope Imaging and Operation System (MIOS 6) with its simple-to-operate dashboard and interactive menus.
