At the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA) meeting in Barcelona, Spain, this week, Andrea Govetto, MD, PhD, was announced as the first recipient of the Ramin Tadayoni Award.
Dr. Govetto, a vitreoretinal surgeon at Oftalmico-Fatebenefratelli Hospital in Milan, Italy, was honored for his groundbreaking work on developing a computational model of fluid flow and retinal tissue deformation in macular edema. The award, intended to recognize exceptional retina research and support emerging talent, includes €30,000 ($33,500) for research support and an additional €5,000 ($5,600) for the recipient.
Established in memory of the late Ramin Tadayoni, MD, PhD, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year, the award is supported by Oculis Holding AG, for whom Dr. Tadayoni served as chief scientific officer. He also was president of EURETINA and a former editorial board member of Retinal Physician.
