The AAO’s annual meeting will take place Nov. 3-6 at Moscone Center in San Francisco. The annual meeting will once again feature subspecialty day, named lectures, a range of sessions, skills transfer labs, and more.

HIGHLIGHTS
This year’s show will include:
- Subspecialty Day (Nov. 3-Nov. 4)
Subspecialty Day will consist of eight meetings divided across seven different subspecialties, including glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, ocular oncology and pathology, refractive surgery, retina (two days), cornea and oculofacial plastic surgery. Hanneke van Proosdij and David Tayler, co-directors, Voices of Music, will give the 2023 Michael F. Marmor Lecture in Ophthalmology and the Arts, titled “Bach to the Future, Baroque Music in the 21st Century,” followed by a performance from Voices of Music. Eve J. Higginbotham, SM, MD, ML, will deliver the 80th Edward Jackson Memorial Lecture, titled “Striving Toward Better Eye Health Beyond Our Waiting Rooms.” The 2023 Laureate Award will be presented to H. Dunbar Hoskins, Jr., MD. - Named Lectures

The AAO 2023 meeting registration includes access to many educational options, including: AAO and AAOE instruction courses, symposia, original paper sessions, Poster Theater presentations, informal poster discussions and a video program. For more original research and sessions highlighting cutting-edge science — in addition to original paper sessions and posters — the AAO recommends looking for the Late Breaking sections of Retina Subspecialty Day and Refractive Subspecialty Day. Also, the AAO recommends attending the interactive Diagnose This symposium (SYM08) or the Advanced Techniques in Oculoplastics instruction course (236). - Skills Transfer Labs
This year’s meeting will feature 30 didactic lectures and 50 labs that make up the Skills Transfer Program. New in 2023 is the Artificial Iris Prosthesis lab (Michael Snyder, MD and Nicole Fram, MD, course directors) and Basics of Nonsurgical Periocular Rejuvenation (Aditi Mehta, MD, course director).
All lectures are included in your meeting registration, but Skill Transfer labs require the purchase of a separate lab ticket. ADDITIONAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES
In-person registration also includes access to several non-CME educational options in the Expo:
- Academy Resource Center, where attendees can browse products in clinical education, coding, practice management and patient education. Attendees can also take a professional headshot.
- Learning Lounge, where attendees can enjoy informal group discussions facilitated by key opinion leaders. New topics begin every 15 minutes.
- Poster Theater, where attendees can meet presenters and attend moderated poster presentations led by mentors and colleagues.
- Showcase Theater, where companies give talks on their latest products and services as well as the latest technology trends. This year will feature 30-minute sessions and faster paced 18-minute TED Talks.
- Truhlsen-Marmor Museum of the Eye, where attendees can view the museum’s newest exhibit, “Doctor and Detective: History of Ophthalmic Diagnostics.”
AAOE PRACTICE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
The American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives (AAOE) includes a program tailored specifically to the challenges faced by administrators and physician leaders. The program features expert-led courses, in-person networking with peers and valuable takeaways that can be immediately implemented in your practice. AAO 2023 will not require proof of vaccination for entry to the meeting, and mask wearing remains optional.
