OPHTEC AND I-OPTICS COLLABORATION
A collaboration between Ophtec and i-Optics combines Ophtec’s IOL and ArtiLens portfolio with i-Optics’ Cassini Corneal Shape Analyzer. The products will be sold and promoted together to assist with accurate diagnostics and treatment planning of patients with astigmatism, the companies say. Cassini measures the axis and magnitude of corneal astigmatism to plan premium IOLs.

ALCON TORIC PRO iPAD APP
1 The Toric Pro iPad app, from Alcon, gives cataract surgeons tools to improve their knowledge on toric IOL procedures to help identify candidates. With Toric Pro, users can simulate surgical practice for preoperative reference and intraoperative axis marking of the eye, as well as capture and upload postoperative patient data to analyze surgically-induced astigmatism. Additionally, the app features comprehensive information on toric IOL benefits, implantation tips and tutorial videos.

OPTOVUE iSCAN
2 Optovue’s iScan features software-guided scanning technology designed to make OCT technology accessible to a range of eyecare professionals. The device helps guide patients during exams with minimal operator involvement through audible cues, the company says. iScan uses Optovue’s iWellness scan to provides a cross-sectional view of the retinal layers, a retinal thickness map and a ganglion cell complex map. These outputs help doctors to identify signs of disease and analyze ocular health.

HAAG-STREIT LENSTAR 900 BIOMETER T-CONE ATTACHMENT
The T-Cone attachment for Haag-Streit USA’s Lenstar 900 biometer connects magnetically to the device and assists surgeons in planning toric surgery. It provides placido topography of the center of the anterior cornea as well as with a graphical toric IOL planner to optimize placement of the incision and IOL, the company says. The EyeSuite integrated analysis software provides high-resolution video image, the axial as well as the tangential and the elevation map to the user. Also, the company offers online and onsite training.

■ Genentech submitted a supplemental Biologics License Application for Lucentis to the FDA for diabetic retinopathy treatment based on results of the RISE and RIDE Phase III clinical trials demonstrating its safety and efficacy. No ocular medications are currently approved for diabetic retinopathy treatment.
■ Eye Handbook revised its mobile smartphone application designed for eyecare providers, surgeons, specialists and staff. The update’s features include medical calculators, ICD-10 coding, audio and video downloads, ophthalmology and optometry journals, eye diagrams and patient education tools.
■ Bioptigen is developing an intraoperative OCT system integrated directly into the optical train of the surgical microscope. The design provides ophthalmic surgeons with real-time imaging over a field of view 20 -mm wide and 15 mm in depth. The device is not yet cleared by the FDA to be marketed, sold or distributed in the United States.
