HEIDELBERG SPECTRALIS ULTRA-WIDEFIELD MODULE

1 The new ultra-widefield angiography module from Heidelberg Engineering consists of a dedicated lens and software. The interchangeable lens attaches to the camera head. In ultra-widefield mode it offers the ability to perform highspeed video angiography with both fluorescein and indocyanine green, individually or simultaneously. The new module is compatible with other Heidelberg equipment such as the Heidelberg Eye Explorer.

VECTOR VISION ELCT TEST

2 A new test uses letter size to evaluate AMD and other retinal disease entities for stabilization and improvement. Evans Letter Contrast Test (ELCT) is used in conjunction with the VectorVision and Good-lite ESV-3000, which is an LED-based, auto-calibrated back-lighting system designed to ensure uniform and consistent lighting for evaluating retinal function.

GULDEN GUTIERREZ MG EXPRESSION LID PLATE PLUS

3 A new eyelid plate expressor is designed to help physicians elevate the underside of the eyelid. While providing support for the eyelid, the Gulden Gutierrez MG Expression Lid Plate Plus assists in several eye exam functional measurements, including meibomian gland expression. The instrument can also be used for eyelid eversion and scleral depression as well as to measure pupil size, distance between the upper and lower eyelids, iris diameter, ptosis, horizontal visible iris diameter, pterygium, pinguecula, outer canthus to cornea plane and more.

OCUSOFT RETAINE DRY EYE SUPPLEMENTS

4 Two new dietary supplement from Ocusoft Inc. contains blends of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids to combat inflammation associated with dry eye, the company says. The supplements, marketed under the Retain umbrella, come in blister card packages. Retain OM3, which comes in packs of 60 soft gel capsules, contains 800 mg EPA and 400 mg DHA. Retaine Flax comes in packs of 120 and is based in flaxseed oil, for those who cannot tolerate fish oil.

WAVETEC VERIFEYE ORA SYSTEM

The VerifEye monitoring system is a hardware upgrade for the cataract surgery-assisting WaveTec ORA System. ORA-guided cataract surgery enables surgeons to measure the eye and refine outcomes during the procedure. This upgrade provides streaming refractions in a preview screen to help surgeons confirm eye stability prior to measurement. The eye stability VerifEye provides is aimed at producing precise surgery and a refined visual outcome.

ARK-1 AUTOREFRACTOR/ AUTOKERATOMETER

The Ark-1 functions as both an autorefractor and an autokeratometer, each with glare testing capabilities, according to manufacturer Marco Ophthalmic, who teamed up with Nidek in its creation. It includes Nidek’s and Marco’s EyeTracking System. The ARK-1 is designed to measure objective spherical, cylindrical refractive errors and cylinder axis from the refractive status. Its glare testing capability can aid physicians to test if patients qualify for cataract surgery. The accommodative measurement of the device helps detect problems in pre-presbyopia or latent hyperopia.

BAUSCH + LOMB THERAPEARL EYE MASK

5 A pliable, reusable, hot-or-cold therapy mask from Bausch + Lomb is designed to deliver relief for dry eye symptoms as well as aid clogged meibomian glands. The doctor-designed mask can be chilled in a freezer or fridge or heated in the microwave and is able to maintain consistent temperature for 20 minutes. A heated Eye Mask can loosen meibum to help in tear production. A chilled mask can help to alleviate allergic reactions such as puffy and itchy eyes. The mask is available over the counter.

OPTOVUE IFUSION

6 The new iFusion system from Optovue combines spectral-domain OCT and digital fundus photography in one platform. The combination is an effort to make the clinical evaluation more comprehensive and to streamline the process. The modular pairing combines the iVue SD-OCT with the new iCam non-mydratic fundus camera on a single platform. Additionally, the iFusion provides the latest in OCT and fundus imaging to your patients through various upgrade pathways. The iFusion system received FDA 510(k) clearance in late July.

MEDFLOW, VISIONWEB LENS ORDERING

Users of Medflow Optical EHR and practice management software can now order spectacle lenses from laboratories on the VisionWeb supplier network from within the system, thanks to a recent upgrade. The integration is meant to facilitate online ordering. Orders placed through VisionWeb using the integration will be received by the lab sooner than traditional orders and are put into process automatically.

OASIS IRIS EXPANDER

7 The 6.25-mm Oasis Iris Expander is designed to expand insufficiently dilated pupils to help sustain visibility during complicated cataract, vitreoretinal or other surgical procedures. Once inserted, the molded polypropylene ring has four pockets to cradle the ocular tissue, providing surgeons an unimpeded view. Once the expander is removed, the iris returns to its normal shape and function. Packaged with an inserter and five single-use units per box, it can also used to manage floppy iris syndrome, the company says.

The new integration of the Sonomed Escalon AXIS Image Management platform and the First Insight MaximEyes EHR enables users to directly access all their patients’ diagnostic images directly from the EHR. Though the AXIS platform is able to integrate with any EHR, the integration with MaximEyes is designed to enhance the time-saving capabilities of the software, according to Sonomed Escalon. The integration simplifies patient data management by swiftly connecting users to the AXIS system and displaying both exam records and diagnostic images for individual patients. MaximEyes users have the option to host the integration locally or within a cloud environment.
