PACHPEN
AND ACCUPACH V
Accutome
The PachPen's ergonomic design makes taking measurements quick and easy, and its gentle-touch probe ensures patient comfort, says Accutome. The unit has the ability to take nine readings and average them. The IOP-correction calculator converts entered IOP measurements from a tonometer in seconds. Accutome's Digital Signal Analysis actually examines waveforms and eliminates marginally aligned measurements, a major improvement over older pachymeters.
The AccuPach V has a user-friendly touch-tone screen and a revolutionary voice output feature that calls out readings, allowing the user to concentrate more on the patient, rather than the unit. State-of-the-art digital signal analysis combined with a probe-sampling rate of 65 MHz ensures accurate measurements and digital waveform technology helps to ensure measurements are properly aligned. The AccuPach V also contains an IOP- Correction Calculator.

THE GDX
Carl Zeiss Meditec
The GDx from Carl Zeiss Meditec provides highly detailed and reproducible retinal nerve fiber layer analysis of a 20° x 20° area around the optic disc. It compares measurements to a large, multi-racial normative database and has been shown to predict visual field loss. In addition, the instrument has a unique "screening mode" to help assess which patients require a full glaucoma workup.
Scans are performed easily, do not require dilation and take between 1 and 3 minutes, says CZM. Results are operator-independent, which is especially important for analyzing change over time. The GDx features make it an ideal diagnostic and management tool for glaucoma specialists, says the company.

HEIDELBERG ENGINEERING
Heidelberg Retina Tomograph 3
The Heidelberg Retina Tomograph 3 (HRT3) is newly enhanced for the assessment, diagnosis and management of glaucoma. The HRT3 uses laser technology to produce a topographical image of the patient's optic nerve, providing an objective analysis of the structure's cup, rim and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL). A new feature of the HRT3, the Glaucoma Probability Score, is generated by artificial intelligence known as relevance vector machine (RVM). This analysis provides a statistical probability of damage using ethnic-specific databases based on the 3-D shape of the optic disc and RNFL. This software eliminates the need to draw contour lines and provides real-time feedback to assist the operator in acquiring a quality image. It also monitors the patient's condition over time, comparing baseline images to follow-up examinations, highlighting areas of statistically significant progression.

OPTOMAP RETINAL EXAM
Optos
The Optomap is an effective tool to aid in the detection of glaucoma or a glaucoma suspect, says Optos. The software allows users to compare the right and left eye side-by-side, enabling assessment of any difference in the optic nerves. Differences can be qualitatively and quantitatively distinguished. The Optos Review software includes a tool to determine if the patient is a glaucoma suspect the ISNT rule. First, users draw the part of the neuroretinal rim with the thickest tissue, which is inferior, followed by superior, nasal and temporal rim, the last being the thinnest. The software gives users a cup-to-disc and vertical cup-to-disc measurement. Glaucomatous discs typically violate the ISNT rule when there is damage at the superior and inferior poles of the disc. The annotation color will indicate if the result is within expected parameters; green when results are within expected parameters and pink when results should be queried.

OCULAR RESPONSE ANALYZER
Reichert
The Ocular Response Analyzer utilizes a dynamic bi-directional applanation process to provide the world's first direct measure of corneal biomechanical properties, says Reichert. This new measurement, called corneal hysteresis (CH), is a measurement of viscous damping in the corneal tissue and is an indicator of the overall integrity of the cornea. In addition to its usefulness in the identification of corneal pathologies such as keratoconus and Fuchs' dystrophy, clinical investigations have shown that the CH measurement provides an independent indicator of progression in glaucoma. Due to its ability to determine corneal biomechanical properties, the Ocular Response Analyzer can also present IOPcc, a new measure of IOP that correlates with Goldmann on average, but is less affected by corneal properties, such as elasticity, resistance and thickness. The instrument also features a built-in ultrasound pachymeter and a comprehensive patient-management database.
